The cursor blinks rhythmically, keystrokes echoing in the dark: Right now, I am right in the thick of Chapter 5 of the first draft of Volume 2. The scenes are gaining sharpness, the atmosphere is tightening – and in phases like this, something happens that many writers will recognize:
The deeper you sink into a world, the louder the voices at the edges of the narrative become.
Meridas 5 isn’t just a static backdrop that dissolves once the final manuscript page is turned. While hammering away at Volume 2, questions, characters, and forgotten pasts keep surfacing, demanding room to breathe.
Today, I want to give you an exclusive but cautious look inside my notebook – at concepts and projects quietly maturing in the background. An important note up front: These are not hard release dates or binding promises, but an honest look at where this world might be heading.
1. The Big Picture: Meridas 5 Conceived as a Trilogy (Volume 3 in Sight)
Many readers have asked how long the main series is intended to run. For me, the overarching architecture is now clear:
»Meridas 5« is envisioned as a trilogy.
Volume 1 set the traps, Volume 2 tightens the noose – and Volume 3 is intended to deliver the grand, inevitable finale. A climax where all threads, syndicates, and open scores across the city collide. I don’t want an endless loop without an end in sight, but a hard-hitting, three-part story arc with a real, memorable conclusion.
2. Companion Dossier: „The Children of Darkness“
Anyone who has finished Volume 1 knows how many emotional questions remain lingering in the air – above all, the fate of Janet, Eva, and Maddie.
Under the working title „The Children of Darkness“ (Die Kinder der Finsternis), an idea has formed for a standalone companion book entirely dedicated to the fate of these three. Not a standard crime investigation, but a dense, poignant, and gripping story exploring what this city does to people and the scars it leaves behind.
3. The Origin Dossiers: How It All Began
Alongside the future, the characters’ pasts are also fighting their way to the surface:
- The Story of Hank & Eva: Anyone who knows them senses their deep bond. But how did they actually meet – and how did they fall in love? A planned short story aims to shine a light on their beginnings. (And yes: At its core, that will likely be my very first romance story – naturally soaked in trademark Meridas 5 grit ;))
- Alec – The Man in Black: Dark legends shroud his path. In a dedicated origin story, you will discover how Alec became »The Man in Black« in the first place – and what events drove him to become the feared figure haunting the alleys of Meridas 5.
💡 Prime Directive: One Step at a Time
Before false expectations take root: Volume 2 remains the absolute priority.
As an indie author balancing family and a day job, my golden rule is: Focus beats rush. All of these stories are ideas, outlines, and scene fragments in my files. What they prove to me above all is that this world is alive, it breathes, and there is still an immense amount of ground to cover.
But we build step by step: First, the first draft of Volume 2 will be completed, followed by revision and editing – and only once Volume 2 is safely in your hands will we decide which dossier opens next.
